Phobotron is a retro robot design object created as a futuristic planetary exploration machine operated by a human pilot navigating distant unknown worlds. Designed for scouting alien landscapes and constructing the first human settlements in deep space. Phobotron combines retro sci-fi storytelling with industrial mechanical design.
The sculpture is built from laser-cut and laser-engraved birch plywood combined with etched plexiglass panels and vintage Dutch construction toy parts from SIO. Arms, legs and structural components are assembled by hand using carefully selected retro construction elements that give each robot its own distinctive appearance and mechanical personality. The robots are illuminated by 12-volt LED lighting that makes the etched lines glow.
Because the vintage toy parts and color combinations vary naturally, no two Phobotron robots are ever exactly alike. Plexiglass background colors may differ depending on what visually fits the individual sculpture best. The etched space explorer scene and its facial features remains the recognizable constant element within every Phobotron model.
The result is a collectible retro futuristic robot object that combines craftsmanship, nostalgia and imaginative world-building into a unique piece of functional art.
